ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ, a European group dedicated to the energy transition and a producer and supplier of green and renewable hydrogen, is designing and developing a large-scale industrial project known as ‘Green Horizon’ in the Normandy region – a future production site for low-carbon and renewable hydrogen, which it will operate and maintain. 

Located in the town of Gonfreville-l’Orcher in Normandy, ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ’s Green Horizon site will produce up to 34 tonnes of low-carbon, renewable hydrogen per day (representing an electrolysis production capacity of 100 MW). This project is supported by the French government under a France 2030 grant agreement totalling 149 million euros.

Hydrogen produced by Green Horizon (Normandy) will be generated through water electrolysis using renewable, low-carbon electricity that meets the European sustainability criteria set out for renewable fuels and inputs of non-biological origin (RFNBO) and low-carbon fuels and inputs (LCF), within the framework of the Green Taxonomy. This production site, which will cover an area of 27,000 m², is a key driver of the industrial energy transition. As such, it has been recognised by the European Union through its designation as a  Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI). This project forms part of the PIECC Hydrogen Hy2Infra initiative, a portfolio of projects being implemented across various European countries specifically dedicated to the development of the first large-scale hydrogen production, transport and storage infrastructures: ).

The Green Horizon project is directly aligned with the decarbonisation of the Normandy Region’s strategic industrial and logistics hubs. Thanks to its production capacity, this site will prevent 134,000 tonnes of CO₂ from being emitted each year. The hydrogen produced will make a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector (through indirect use in refineries and direct use in heavy-duty fuel-cell vehicles), whilst also providing vital opportunities for industrial activities, thereby supporting the transition of the region’s industrial partners and local authorities.

ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ Kemsley, a project that represents a significant part of the decarbonisation of South East England.

Located in a industrial cluster north of the Sittingbourne, Kent, UK, ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ’s Kemsley project will produce up to 21.6 tonnes of green hydrogen per day through a 50 MW electrolysis facility. This on-site project, covering an area of over 5 hectares, has been shortlisted by the UK government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) under Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2).

Our hydrogen will be produced using electricity sourced from a portfolio of generation that complies with the UK Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard (LCHS), ensuring low-carbon production throughout the life of the project. If selected under HAR2, the project will receive a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD) to support its long-term commercial viability. Its construction and commissioning remains subject to final government agreements, planning and permitting  permissions, and a final investment decision.

Our Kemsley project forms an integral part of the decarbonisation of South-East England. At full capacity, it is projected to avoid up to 50,000 tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions annually by replacing natural gas and other carbon-intensive fuels. The low carbon hydrogen produced will primarily supply a major industrial customer in the region while also serving other local manufacturers, helping to accelerate industrial decarbonisation and supporting the UK’s broader net-zero ambitions.

ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ Trelleborg plans to supply green hydrogen, with a focus on heavy transport and industry in southern Sweden. The facility will be able to produce up to 4.4 tonnes of hydrogen per day, corresponding to an electrolysis capacity of 10 MW. ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ helps reduce dependence on fossil fuels such as diesel and natural gas.

Our green hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water in facilities powered by renewable energy, and then delivered to nearby customers. This is a proven technology that safely supplies local businesses and helps them eliminate their carbon dioxide emissions. More than 5,500 lorries enter Sweden via Skåne every day via three main access routes: the Öresund Bridge, the port of Trelleborg and the port of Helsingborg. Its location in Trelleborg enables the facility to supply these lorries, as well as domestic heavy goods vehicles undertaking long-distance transport, with sustainable fuel. In addition, the facility also plans to supply hydrogen to local and regional industries for various industrial processes.

About ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ Croixrault (Somme)

ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ is completing the construction of its green hydrogen production plant, with a capacity of 2 tonnes per day (5 MW), in Croixrault (around 30 kilometres south-west of Amiens, in the Somme), in the Mine d’Or business park, alongside the A29 motorway.

ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ will thus contribute to the sustainable reindustrialisation of the Hauts-de-France region and help ensure the transition of the local economy towards a more self-sufficient and carbon-free model. The hydrogen will be produced by water electrolysis using electricity generated from renewable energy sources (primarily wind power, via PPAs).

This production site will meet the needs of manufacturers and heavy transport operators in the Hauts-de-France region (heavy goods vehicles, buses, and the chemical, metallurgy, steel and glass sectors), replacing grey hydrogen or fossil fuels.

About ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ Buléon – ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ in Brittany

ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ will produce up to 2 tonnes of green and renewable hydrogen per day, or up to 575 tonnes per year, at its site in Buléon (Brittany), near the VSB Energies Nouvelles wind farm. The site’s central location will enable ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ to efficiently supply customers throughout the Brittany region, promoting a short supply chain approach.

ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ Bretagne is a key player in the VHyGO initiative, also known as the Great West Hydrogen Valley. Supported by local public and private stakeholders, this initiative aims to establish the first supraregional infrastructure for producing and distributing green hydrogen in western France. The goal is to democratize this new energy source and contribute to the decarbonization of industry and transportation.

As part of the VHyGO initiative, ÁÔÆæÖØ¿ÚÊÓƵ Bretagne will install two HyGO filling stations in the Lorient urban area. One station will be located at the Lorient bus depot, and the other on the left bank of the river Scorff for maritime use. Eventually, 19 buses and two passenger transport boats, known as Transrades, could be powered by this clean, local energy in the Lorient conurbation. These hydrogen-powered Transrades will be the first of their kind in France.
